Australian Open 8-Ball Championships 2022 - Mens
WINNER: Danyal Porter
RUNNER UP: Justin Sajich
The Australian Open 8 Ball Championship was the first APPA event to be held in a different state. This event was held at Empire Bar and Pool in Adelaide, South Australia.
The venue was filled with 13 Olio tables, 9 of which were recently reclothed. There were also QR codes on every table for players to scan to bring up the scoreboard from CueScore on their phone, which allowed all spectators and other players to be able to be up to date with every match at any given point.
The men's event had a full field of 64 whilst the women’s event had a field of 20.
Day 1 started with a double elimination stage in a race to 5 for the mens with the top 32 qualifying to the next round, and round robin for the womens, top 4 from each group to qualify.
Day 2 consisted of 16 players on the losers side being redrawn into 16 of the winners side to start off our top 32 knockout stage.
Congratulations to our winner Danyal Porter who played phenomenally throughout the entire tournament to ultimately take the title against Justin Sajich in the final. We’d also like to congratulate Bean Hung for winning our Australian Open 8 Ball Women’s title and Kenny Tirza for reaching the final.
Special shoutout to Alec Evreniadis for allowing to use his amazing venue, James Georgiadis and Michael Cacciola for assisting which allowed the event to run so smoothly.
Special thanks to our sponsors Empire Bar and Pool for the venue, T-140 our mens and plate event sponsor, Delahunty Construction our stream sponsor, and CueWorld our women’s event sponsor!
